Cell service back online in New Orleans

September 6th, 2005

According to ComputerWorld, most of the major cell phone carriers are now working at some capacity in New Orleans. T-Mobile seems to have the strongest coverage, while Verizon and Cingular are both rolling out mobile cell sites to boost coverage and capacity. Sprint, apparently, is struggling.

The carriers are encouraging users in the area to communicate via text message. Text messages are sent in short bursts and don’t require the bandwith of voice calls.
