The Flat Creek Five for Tuesday, October 30, 2007
October 30th, 2007A recap of recent blog posts and news from the digital marketing agency Flat Creek.
A recap of recent blog posts and news from the digital marketing agency Flat Creek.
I’m really excited to announce the launch of a new portfolio feature, Flat Creek Stories (found here), on our main website. We called it Flat Creek Stories because the results of the creative, strategic services we offer are more than a portfolio. They are our stories, and help tell the stories of our clients.
We’ve had the opportunity to bring to life many exciting stories over the last few years. From the classic stories of swanky Washington, DC events to heartfelt tales of championing a cause, Flat Creek has a few memoirs from integrating the marketing capabilities that today’s professional firm needs.
There’s only a few to start, but we’ll add more soon. I realize it’s not the flashy-est portfolio around, but it tells about what we do and why we do it. And at the end of the day, I believe helping our clients tell their stories is what we do best.
This is last minute notice, but I’ve been asked by M.E. Sprengelmeyer of the Rocky Mountain News to join an online panel of debate analysts tonight for the Fox News presidential campaign. You can join in the fun here.
There’s a lot of energy here in the room as BarCamp Nashville gets under way at the Exit/In on Elliston Place. There are a lot of good, grassroots speakers lined up today. It’s not about large corporate sponsors, but several great Nashville new media companies have pitched in to make the event possible.
There’s a lot of interactive tools for the “un-conference” today, including Twitter and a chat room.
Kudos to Marcus and Dave for having the vision to bring BarCamp to Nashville! Look forward to posting more insights and feedback later.
Over the weekend, we launched a new official website for Congressman Tom Cole of Oklahoma:
The new website features advanced content management, a creative, user-friendly interface, and an expanded media section with RSS and video for Congressman Cole’s regular TV program “Cole on Congress.” Usability was a key factor in the redesign, and we have built audience-specific portals for major constituent groups in the Congressman’s district, so they can find tools and information quickly.
The features for the site were strongly influenced by the Congressional Management Foundation’s best practices guidelines, and we thank them for their advice and insights throughout this redesign project.
Of course, no web design is ever complete, so stay tuned for exciting new Web 2.0 features in the coming months, many of which will be used for the first time by an official Congressional website!
Denver, Colo. – Flat Creek, a strategic marketing technology firm, today launched What’s News Colorado (www.whatsnewscolorado.com), a new online endeavor to give Coloradoans a one-stop shop for local news throughout the Centennial State.
“We’re very excited to have this opportunity to bring together local news from across Colorado,” said Allen Fuller, Flat Creek’s Managing Partner. “The client’s vision was to feature important stories we often miss, those on the front page in Craig or Fort Morgan. Through the use of new technologies such as RSS we were able to combine Colorado’s best news sources and enable visitors to get a quick glance at what’s going on across the state.”

We work on a lot of different projects throughout the week. In fact, internally we update our project list in SharePoint almost every day. But to give our clients and prospective clients a better picture of what we’re working on currently, we’ve created a tag cloud of our projects.
A tag cloud lets you take a list of keywords, or tags, and display them such that the more frequent appear bigger than the less frequent. We use it here on the blog to show what categories appear most often. So we just built one to show which projects appear more often. Like so:
If you don’t see what you’re looking for in the cloud, go ahead and contact us. It may be time we added it!
Not everyone celebrates Easter, certainly, but for those of us who do celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, this is an exciting and special day. May you have a blessed and wonderful Sunday.
For a lot of us, we get snow too!
Flat Creek has refocused the firm’s services to concentrate on the strategic application of technology to meet clients’ marketing needs.

We really just threw this together over the weekend, but as with any site, the devil is in the details. But now the pages are up and running smoothly (if you see differently, please comment below).
I’m up late tonight working on the site in order to get handheld formatting up and running. As I mentioned a couple of days ago, liquid design allows websites to be formatted for the small screen without requiring special databases and web applications to format those pages. In our case, check out www.fcreek.com on your wireless phone. It’s crazy how well this works!
More details on the site soon, but in the meantime enjoy! (Oh, and if you’re in a beta testing kinda mood, feel free to poke around and let us know what you find…
